Mark Kratzner, a local Red Skelton enthusiast, is hoping that should the work continue this summer, a marker of some kind will be included celebrating Skelton's famed "Pledge of Allegiance." He asked the commissioners Monday for permission to proceed with his plans to raise money for the project. First, he needed to know whether they would allow some type memorial to be included on the courthouse lawn.Kratzner said Jan. 14 marks the 40th anniversary of the Vincennes native's first reading of this version of the pledge, which he adapted from his recollections of comments made by one of his teachers at the old Harrison School, James Laswell. The commissioners tabled the request.
